Salwa Salach and Sawrah Siuori, two young women from Bethelehem, aged 16 and 17 respectively, were kidnapped from their homes on the 5th June 2008 and put in administrative detention by the I.D.F.
Administrative detention officially operates according to an administrative order which negates any need for a court ruling, can occur without any indictment and without any trial, and which can be arbitrarily extended without limitation.
These two women continue to be held at Damon prison, in the Carmel Mountains, a jail which has been defined by the prison services and by the state attorney as not appropriate for human beings. Besides Salwa and Sawrah in the Israeli jails, 1,000 other prisoners are also being detained in administrative detention.
We, young people, are aware of their situation and demand the Israeli government to release them immediately, and to withhold from using administrative detention in the future. If there is evidence that can be used against those who are in administrative detention, may they be brought to trial in a court of law according to the international law, and be enabled to defend themselves legitimately.
