Subject: Petition Regarding Removal of Keywords from the COBE Exam Screen
Dear Members of the English Inspectorate,
We, the undersigned English teachers, are reaching out to express our deep concern regarding the recent decision to remove the display of keywords on the COBE exam screen. We believe that this change poses significant challenges for students, particularly those who benefit from visual reinforcement during the oral exam.
For many students, keywords act as crucial cues that guide their thoughts, helping them organize and communicate responses coherently. The lack of keywords may disproportionately affect students who experience anxiety or have processing challenges, as it adds a cognitive burden that can hinder their performance.
Without keywords, the COBE exam risks becoming a test of short-term memory rather than an accurate assessment of a student’s English language abilities. This change could inadvertently disadvantage students, undermine their confidence, and affect their overall performance in a way that does not accurately reflect their language skills.
We kindly request that you reconsider this decision and continue to display keywords during the COBE exam. This small adjustment would make a significant difference in ensuring that the exam remains a fair and inclusive assessment tool for all students.
Thank you for considering our perspective. We look forward to a response and would be happy to discuss this matter further if needed.
Sincerely,
