הנהלת המינהל הקהילתי בקעה רבתי שוקלת לסיים את מתן חסותה לפרויקט "שכנות טובה- אבו תור א-ת'ורי", מבחינה משפטית, ניהולית, מקצועית וכלכלית. אנו קוראים להנהלה להחליט להמשיך את חסותה על הפרויקט, כפי שהתקיימה בשבע השנים האחרונות.

פרויקט שכנות טובה יזם פעילות קהילתית נרחבת, המתבססת על צרכים משותפים של תושבים משני חלקי השכונה, תושבי אבו תור היהודים ותושבי א-ת'ורי הערבים, החיים אלו בצד אלו.

במסגרת הפרויקט:

נערכים קורסים לעברית ולערבית ברמות שונות
הוקם "בית קפה לשפות" - מפגשים שבועיים שבמהלכם משוחחים המשתתפים בעברית ובערבית
הוקמו קבוצות כדורגל משותפות לילדים ונערים יהודים וערבים
הוקם פרויקט שכונתי כלכלי - "אבו ג'וב" ובו מאגר בעלי מקצוע ועסקים בשכונה לשימוש הדדי ולסיוע
הוקמה ספריית רחוב ובה ספרים בשלוש שפות, עברית, ערבית ואנגלית (ראשונה מסוגה בארץ)
מתקיימים אירועים חברתיים כמו הקרנת סרטים, גינה קהילתית, פיקניקים, הצגות, ירידים
נערכים סיורים - "אבו טורס" להיכרות עם השכונה כמודל לחיים משותפים מפי מדריכות תושבות השכונה בעברית ובערבית

במשך השנים ניכרת תרומתו של פרויקט שכנות טובה:

בירידה באירועי אלימות בשכונה
בעבודה משותפת של תושבים מול העירייה למען אינטרסים משותפים
ביחסים של כבוד הדדי סביב החגים והמנהגים השונים ובכל הנוגע ליצירת מרקם לחיים משותפים ובניית מרחבים משותפים, עם השתתפות של חלק מתושבי השכונות הסמוכות בבקעה רבתי
בבניית מודל לחיקוי שאומץ ע"י החברה למתנ"סים במינהל קהילתי תלפ"ז וצור באהר
ביצירת הד ארצי ועולמי כשהפרויקט הוצג בפני וועדת החינוך בכנסת, כשמועדון אינטר מילאנו אימץ את תוכנית הכדורגל, השגרירות האמריקאית מימנה פרויקט ציור קיר קהילתי, מנהיגי הפרויקט קיבלו אות מתנדבי השנה מעיריית ירושלים ועוד.

אנו החתומים מטה מאמינים, כי פרויקט שכנות טובה הוא אחד המרכיבים החשובים ביותר של תחושת קהילתיות בשכונה, ושיש לו השפעה חיובית גם על רחבי מינהל קהילתי בקעה רבתי. אנו מרגישים גאווה על כך שנפלה בחלקנו הזכות להיות חלק מפרויקט חלוצי שכזה בתחום החיים המשותפים בירושלים, בשכונה שבה גרים בסמיכות יהודים וערבים. אנחנו גאים לעודד ולהיות שכונה שהיא דוגמא ומופת של סובלנות וחיים משותפים. נוסף לכך אנחנו גאים, שהמינהל הקהילתי תומך ונותן גושפנקה לפעילות המבורכת של שכנות טובה וכך מעלה אותה מיוזמה פרטית לעבודה קהילתית משמעותית.

אין לנו כל ספק כי הפרויקט צריך להימשך ואף להתחזק ועל כן אנחנו מאמינים שההחלטה להמשיך את השותפות בין המינהל הקהילתי לבין פרויקט שכנות טובה תהיה החלטה נכונה למינהל, שמשקפת גם את רצונו של רוב התושבים באבו תור וברחבי בקעה רבתי.

The Board of the Greater Baka Community Administration is considering terminating its sponsorship of the "Good Neighbors - Abu Tor / A-Thuri" project. This sponsorship has continued for the past seven years and has included legal, administrative, financial and professional services.visit our Facebook pageFrom its inception until today, the "Good Neighbors Project" has initiated extensive community activities, based on the common needs of residents from both parts of the neighborhood, the Jewish residents of Abu Tor and the Arab residents of a-Thuri, living side by side. The Good Neighbors project includes:

Courses are held in Hebrew and Arabic at different levels
Language Cafe twice weekly meetings during which the participants practice their Hebrew and Arabic together
Mixed soccer teams were established for Jewish and Arab 6-16 year olds
Abu Job - A neighborhood economic project with a directory of professionals and businesses in the neighborhood for generating a local economy.
A unique Tri-Lingual Street Library was established with books in Hebrew, Arabic and English
Cultural events such as movie screenings, community garden, picnics ,and outdoor theater
Abu Tours are held to get to know the neighborhood as a model for shared society guided by local residents in Hebrew and Arabic.

Over the years, the impacts of the Good Neighborhood Project have been evident:

Decreasing incidents of violence in the neighborhood
In joint work of residents in relations to the municipality based on common interests
In a relationship of mutual respect around the Jewish and Moslem holidays and customs creating common spaces and fabric for living together
Participation of a significant number of residents of nearby neighborhoods in Greater Baka area
In building a role model now being replicated by the Israel Community Centers Association between the Armon Hanatziv Community Council and Sur Baher
In generating national and global involvement as our soccer program is sponsored by Inter Milano, the American Embassy sponsored our community mural project, the project was presented to the Knesset Education committee the project leaders received the Volunteer of the Year award from the Jerusalem Municipality and more.

We, the undersigned, believe that the Good Neighborhood Project is one of the most important components of a sense of community in the neighborhood, and that it has a positive impact in all the neighborhoods of the Community Council of Greater Baka as well. We are proud that we have the privilege of being part of such a pioneering project in the field of shared community in Jerusalem, in a neighborhood where Jews and Arabs live alongside each other. We are proud be a neighborhood that is a role model of tolerance and joint action. We are proud that the Community Council of Greater Baka has supported and given legitimacy to the Good Neighbors Project making the creation of shared society an overall community objective and not just a partisan initiative.

We have no doubt that the project should continue and even ben strengthened and therefore we believe that the decision to continue the partnership between the Community Council of Greater Baka and the Good Neighborhood project will be the right decision for the Board to take, reflecting the will of most residents in Abu Tor and Greater Baka.
