עצומה כנגד סגירת "מעמותה במרכז לאמנות ומדיה על שם דניאלה פסל"

[English follows]לכבוד הקרן לירושלים ועיזבון דניאלה פסלשלום רב,אנו, אמנים תושבי ירושלים, תומכי אומנות בעיר, יחד עם אמנים ותומכים מכל הארץ, פונים אליכם בהבעת תודה על תמיכתכם בפרוייקט מעמותה במרכז לאמנות ומדיה על-שם דניאלה פסל בירושלים ובבקשה בהולה לעשות כל שביכולתכם להבטיח את המשך קיומו של המרכז. מרכז מעמותה לאומנות ומדיה על שם דניאלה פסל הוא פרויקט יוצא דופן בנוף התרבותי הישראלי. בניגוד למיזמים רבים אחרים, מיום פתיחתו הוא ממלא נאמנה את המטרות אשר למענן הוקם ומאפשר מרחב צנוע של יצירה, התקשרות ודיאלוג עכשוויים, בין אמנים ויוצרים, ובין אלה לבין הקהל המעוניין להיחשף לקולות מורכבים וייחודיים.כמי שבוחרים לגור ולעבוד בעיר הזו, אנחנו גאים על כך שמקום נדיר שכזה פועל דווקא בירושלים. המרכז לוקח על עצמו לקדם, לחקור ולהציג סדר יום תרבותי וחברתי אחר, ומאפשר לנו, אמנים ותושבים, לעבוד, לבנות ולהפיק את עבודתנו בדיאלוג ובשותפות עם אמנים אחרים, בהתייחסות ישירה למקום בו אנחנו חיים. מרחב היצירה שמעניק המרכז לאמנים בבירה כולל שורה של כלים יוצאי דופן. לצד העבודה בחדרי הסטודיו, המרכז מקיים גם פעילות אומנותית קבועה, מטפח גינה קהילתית, מארח אמנים מחו"ל ומחבר ביניהם לבין יוצרים מקומיים, מספק מקום מפגש ולימוד תוך התייחסות לאלמנטים של קיימות, קהילה, חברה ומרחב היסטורי וגיאוגרפי, ומהווה עבורנו  מקור השראה ובית , בו  אפשר לעבוד, להתבונן, להקשיב, להתייעץ ולחלוק. אי אפשר גם להתעלם מההישגים המרשימים של המרכז בשדה האומנות העירוני, הארצי והבינלאומי בשלוש שנות פעילותו, ביניהם הצגת עבודות של אמנים ישראלים בטייט מודרן, בביאנלה לאמנים צעירים במוסקבה, בארט האוס מדריד, בבואנוס איירס ומקומות רבים נוספים, הימצאותו של המרכז ברשימה של מרכזי האמנות המשמעותיים בעולם (שחוברה על ידי ה"ניו מיוזאום" בניו-יורק), הקמה של פלטפורמות חדשות לשיתופי פעולה, הפקת התחרות לוידאו וקולנוע ניסיוני במסגרת פסטיבל הקולנוע בירושלים, אירוח של אמנים ואוצרים מחו"ל וקהל מבקרים של כ-1,000 איש לתערוכה.המרכז מהווה מימוש חלומה יוצא הדופן של דניאלה פסל, שביקשה בצוואתה לתמוך בקהילת האמנים, על ידי הפיכת ביתה למרכז של פעילות פלורליסטית אומנותית. כתוצאה מכך, העוול בהפסקת הפרויקט הזה, שמשקף את רצונה של דניאלה ואת הצרכים המובהקים של הקהילה האומנותית בעיר, בולט אף יותר.עבור אמנים בבירה, המרכז חשוב כאוויר לנשימה. איום הסגירה המרחף מעליו כעת, מהווה עבורינו איום ממשי על היצירה העצמאית בעיר, על הבחירה של אלו מאיתנו שגרים כאן, להמשיך ולהתגורר ולפעול בירושלים, ועל האפשרות שלנו, כלל היוצרים, לקיים מרחב תרבותי מוגן – יחיד במינו לא רק בירושלים אלא בכל הארץ – בו ישנו מקום לקולות יצירתיים שונים. זאת בזמן בו מוסדות תרבותיים המאפשרים דיאלוג ופלורליזם אמנותי הולכים ונדחקים, הולכים ונמחקים.  אין אנו מסוגלים להבין איך יתכן, אם האמצעים ישנם, להפסיק פרוייקט ההולך בדרך רצונה של דניאלה פסל, הממלא את המטרות שלשמם הוקם, המספק צורך כל כך נחוץ בעיר בזמן שכל כך הרבה יצירה ויוצרים בוחרים או נאלצים לנטוש אותה. לכן אנו, החתומים מטה, פונים אליכם ומבקשים לעשות כל שביכולותיכם להציל את פרוייקט מעמותה במרכז לאמנות ומדיה על-שם דניאלה פסל. להפסקת הפעילות במרכז ייחודי שכזה ישנן השלכות מרחיקות לכת, הרבה מעבר לשיח אומנותי מצומצם כזה או אחר. בבואכם לבחון את אפשרויות הפעולה העומדות לרשותכם, אנחנו מבקשים שכל הנקודות וההשלכות האפשריות הללו, יעמדו לנגד עיניכם.אנחנו בטוחים שחשיבותו של המרכז, דווקא בעיר הזו, דווקא כיום, ברורה לכם בדיוק כפי שהיא מהותית וברורה עבורנו. לכן, במידה שתרצו, נשמח  לסייע  בכל דרך אפשרית ,על מנת שכולנו נוכל למצוא דרך משותפת שתאפשר למרכז מעמותה להמשיך ולהתקיים בירושלים.בתודה, To the Jerusalem Foundation and Daniela Passal estate, Dear Sir or Madam, We, Jerusalem based artists and the city's art supporters alongside artists and supporters from all over Israel, would like to express our gratitude for your support in the project of Mamuta at the Daniela Passal Art and Media Center and extend an urgent appeal to do all that is in your power to guarantee the center's continued existence. Mamuta at the Daniela Passal Art and Media Center is an exceptional project in the Israeli cultural landscape. Unlike many other enterprises, since its inauguration, it has faithfully fulfilled the purposes for which it was established, and allows a modest space of contemporary creation, communication and dialogue between artists and creators and between the two and the public who wants to be exposed to unique and complex voices. As those who choose to reside and work in this city, we are proud to have such a rare place operating specifically in Jerusalem. The center undertakes to promote, explore and exhibit a different cultural and social agenda, and allows us - artists and residents – to build, construct and produce our work though a dialogue and collaboration with other artists, directly engaging with the place in which we live. The space for creative work the centers provides for artists in the capital encompasses a host of exceptional means. Alongside the work in the studios, the center also holds regular artistic activity, cultivates a community garden, hosts international artists and connects them with local artists, provides a place for gathering and studying while addressing elements of sustainability, community, society and a geographic and historic space, and form an inspiration and a home in which we can work, view, listen, consult and share. It would be impossible to overlook the center's remarkable achievements in the municipal, national and international art scenes throughout the three years of its activity, including the display of works by Israeli artists at the Tate Modern, the Moscow Biennial for Young Artists, Art House Madrid, Buenos Aires and many other venues, inclusion in the list of most significant art centers in the world (composed by the New Museum in New York), the establishment of new platforms for collaborations, the production of the experimental film and video competition in the framework of the Jerusalem film festival, hosting international artists and curators and a visiting public of some 1000 people per show. The center constitutes the realization of the extraordinary dream of Daniela Passal, who in her will asked to support the artists' community by transforming her house into a center of pluralist artistic activity. Consequently, the injustice in discontinuing this project which reflects Daniela's wishes as well as the distinct needs of the city's artistic community is even more apparent. For artists in the capital, the center is as vital as oxygen. For us, the threat of closure which looms over it at the moment, is a real threat to independent art in the city, to the choice of those of us living here to keep living and working in Jerusalem, and to the possibility of all of us artists to maintain a protected cultural space – singular not only in Jerusalem but in all of Israel – in which there is room for various creative voices. This, at a time when cultural institutions that foster artistic pluralism and dialogue are increasingly marginalized, gradually fading away.  We cannot comprehend how it is conceivable, if there are the means, to discontinue a project that follows Daniela Passal's wishes, that fulfills the purposes for which it was established, that provides such a vital need in the city at a time when so much art and so many artists choose or are forced to abandon it. Therefore we, the undersigned, appeal to you to do all that is in your power to save the project of Mamuta at the Daniela Passal Art and Media Center. The discontinuation of the activity of such an exceptional center has far reaching consequences, which extend well beyond one limited art discourse or another. When you come to examine the available possibilities of action, we ask that all these points and consequences will be in your thoughts.We are confident that the importance of the center, specifically in this city, specifically at this time, is as clear to you as it is clear and substantive to us. Therefore, if you wish, we would be happy to assist in every possible way so that we can all find a common way that will allow the Mamuta center to go on operating in Jerusalem. Thank you,
