GOVERNMENT OF VIETNAM TURNS VIOLENT ON INNOCENT MONASTICS
A difficult, immediate situation has arisen at the Bat Nha monastery in Vietnam. The monastery is a training and practice center in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh's home monastery, Plum Village in France. The 400 monastics are under severe economic, violent, and governmental pressure to abandon the monastery by September 8. They are being harassed day and night with loud speakers, and threatened by religious police dressed as civilians, beaten, and their water supply cut off. As of 6-th of September 2009, they are approaching their 10-th week without water and electricity. The cause apparently is statements made by Thich Nhat Hanh in support of religious freedom and the Dalai Lama. During the war Thich Nhat Hanh founded the Van Hanh University in Saigon while continuing his courageous efforts to generate peace. This moved Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967. Thich Nhat Hanh is a poet, monk & Zen Master, the author of over forty books, including Being Peace, Living Buddha - Living Christ, Teachings on Love.
Please help to stop this violence and save Bat Nha Monastics. Thank you for signing and please send on to others.
