בן שפירו – אל תגיע לישראל! אל תזהם את טקס הדלקת המשואות!

     הערב (ראשון 20.4.25) נודע כי השרה מירי רגב בחרה באיש התקשורת האמריקני, בן שפירו, להדליק משואה בערב יום העצמאות, בטקס החגיגי לעצמאות ישראל. שפירו הוא אחד מאנשי התקשורת היהודים המשפיעים בעולם, ואלה נימוקי השרה מירי רגב, הממונה על אירועי חגיגות ה-77 למדינה, לבחירה בו: "בן שפירו הוא מגדולי תומכיה של מדינת ישראל בעולם. לאורך כל שנותיו בתחום התקשורת וביתר שאת מאז תחילת המלחמה הוא מפגין את תמיכתו חסרת הפשרות בישראל, בצדקת דרכה ובזכותה להגן על עצמה. בן מביא את הקול הישראלי למיליוני עוקביו ברחבי תבל ועושה זאת ברהיטות, באומץ ובנחישות שלא יודעת גבולות".

     אבל בן שפירו הוא לכאורה גם הומופוב חשוך, שהתבטאויותיו במשך השנים נגד קהילת הלהטב"ק חמורות ומסוכנות. באירוע ב"ישיבה יוניברסיטי" בשנת 2016 אמר: "אנשים טרנסג'נדרים סובלים ממחלה נפשית משמעותית. זה מזיק להתייחס אליהם כאל המין שהם חושבים שהם [...] "ביולוגיה היא ביולוגיה; גברים לא יכולים להפוך לנשים בקסם, ונשים לא יכולות להפוך לגברים בקסם״. בהתבטאות אחרת ב-2023 אמר שלהיות טרנסג'נדר זו מחלת נפש וכי הומוסקסואליות זה ״חטא״.

     לפני 11 שנים, כאשר כדורסלן ה-NBA ג'ייסון קולינס יצא מן הארון, רבים התייחסו אליו כאל גיבור. אך בן שפירו צייץ: "אז ג'ייסון קולינס נקרא גיבור משום שהוא הומו? אמות המידה שלנו בנוגע לגבורה כנראה נפלו קצת מאז קרב נורמנדי".

     בן שפירו הוא הומופוב. הוא  טען שיש להשאיר את ההומוסקסואליות ברשימת ה-DSM כהפרעה נפשית, תקף סרטי חגים הכוללים ייצוג של הקהילה הלהט"בית, בטענה שקרית שחלק מערוצי הכבלים מיועדים ל"משפחות דתיות", ורמז בכך שאנשים להט"בים אינם אנשים מאמינים, בראיון אמר שהוא סבור ש"פעילות הומוסקסואלית היא חטא", ובתגובה לפסיקת בית המשפט העליון שהכשירה נישואים חד-מיניים, צייץ: "מילים לא אומרות כלום. חוקים לא אומרים כלום. החוק הוא, כנראה, כל מה שאובמה מחליט שהוא."

     דעותיו ההומופוביות רצופות ומופצות. כך, למשל, אמר בנאום: "גבר ואישה עושים עבודה טובה יותר בגידול ילדים מאשר שני גברים או שתי נשים". הוא המעיט בהפליית להטב"ים בארה"ב, רואה בטרנסג'נדריות מחלה נפשית: "זוהי הפרעה פסיכולוגית. זה לא עלבון כלפי מי שסובלים מהפרעות פסיכולוגיות... אתה לא עושה שירות למי שסובל מהפרעה נפשית כשאתה מהנהן להם ומציע שההפרעה הזו משתקפת במציאות האובייקטיבית," ובהתאם תיאר את ההצהרה של השחקן הטרנסג'נדר אליוט פייג' על יציאתו מהארון כ"לא נעים", "מוזר", "מבחיל" ו"פתטי".

     טקס המשואות של מדינת ישראל הוא אחד הטקסים הכי חשובים בתרבות העברית. מטרתו היא להבליט את הישגיה של החברה הישראלית ולכבד יחידים ויחידות על פועלם למען החברה הישראלית. הזמנתו של הומופוב מוצהר וקולני לטקס זה היא זיהום אחד הטקסים הכי חשובים בחברה הישראלית.

Ben Shapiro – Don’t Come to Israel! Don’t Pollute the Torch-Lighting Ceremony!

This evening (Sunday, April 20, 2025), it was announced that Minister Miri Regev has chosen American media personality Ben Shapiro to light a torch at the official Independence Day ceremony celebrating Israel’s 77th year. Shapiro is considered one of the most influential Jewish media figures in the world. These were Minister Regev’s reasons for selecting him: “Ben Shapiro is one of the greatest supporters of the State of Israel in the world. Throughout his years in media, and especially since the war began, he has shown unwavering support for Israel, its just cause, and its right to defend itself. Ben brings the Israeli voice to millions of followers around the world and does so with eloquence, courage, and boundless determination.”

But Ben Shapiro is also a dark homophobe, whose statements over the years against the LGBTQ+ community are grave and dangerous. At an event at Yeshiva University in 2016, he said: “Transgender people suffer from a significant mental illness. It’s harmful to treat them as the gender they think they are […] Biology is biology; men can’t magically become women, and women can’t magically become men.” In another statement in 2023, he said that being transgender is a mental illness and that homosexuality is a “sin.”

Eleven years ago, when NBA player Jason Collins came out as gay, many hailed him as a hero. But Ben Shapiro tweeted: “So Jason Collins is a hero because he’s gay? Our standards for heroism have declined a bit since Normandy.”

Ben Shapiro is a homophobe. He claimed that homosexuality should remain listed in the DSM as a mental disorder, attacked holiday films with LGBTQ representation, falsely claiming that some cable channels are meant for “religious families,” and thereby implying that LGBTQ people are not people of faith. In an interview, he said he believes “homosexual activity is a sin,” and in response to the Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage, he tweeted: “Words don’t mean anything. Laws don’t mean anything. The law is, apparently, whatever Obama decides it is.”

His homophobic views are consistent and widely disseminated. For example, in a speech, he said: “A man and a woman do a better job of raising a child than two men or two women.” He downplayed the discrimination LGBTQ people face in the U.S., referred to being transgender as a mental disorder: “It’s a psychological disorder. That’s not an insult to people who suffer from psychological disorders… you’re not doing a service to someone suffering from a mental disorder by humoring them and suggesting their disorder is reflected in objective reality.” In line with this, he described the coming out statement of transgender actor Elliot Page as “awkward,” “creepy,” “disgusting,” and “pathetic.”

The State of Israel’s torch-lighting ceremony is one of the most important events in Hebrew culture. Its purpose is to highlight the achievements of Israeli society and to honor individuals for their contributions to the public good. The invitation of a vocal and declared homophobe to this ceremony pollutes one of the most sacred rituals in Israeli society.

We, members of academia, artists, and public figures from Israel’s LGBTQ+ community, call upon Ben Shapiro: Do not come to the State of Israel. Do not dare to pollute, with your hands, one of the most important ceremonies in our culture. We already have more than enough homegrown homophobes to deal with. You are not welcome here. Kindly stay in your own country!
