save the Eagle-Owls of Karmei Yosef Within the community of Karmei Yosef, located in the Gezer Regional Council, lies an ancient cave situated inside a designated archaeological site. For decades, this cave has served as a nesting site for Eagle-Owls; a long-established pair has made the cave their home
In Israel, the Eagle-Owl is a legally protected species. Its nesting sites are scarce and frequently under threat. The nesting activity in this specific cave is a unique natural asset, as it is located within a residential community - a testament to the coexistence between humans and the owls (a family of foxes also resides in the cave)
However, a new public park is slated for construction on the site; the project has already been approved, and development work is expected to begin soon. Experts unanimously agree that this would result in the irreversible destruction of the Eagle-Owls’ habitat in the area
We, the undersigned, oppose the construction of this park
We call upon the Head of the Gezer Regional Council, Mrs. Rotem Yadlin, and the community council of Karmei Yosef to halt the development work immediately, preserving the habitat of these owls.
