We are writing to you regarding Sophia  Ramirez Gutierrez.

Sophia, the daughter of a single mother who does not hold Israeli citizenship, has been attending the local preschool. Despite this, she has been separated from her community and was not assigned to "Shchunati Shapira School", the neighborhood elementary school to which the children from her preschool cluster normally transition.

During her years in the preschool cluster, Sophia developed a close-knit group of friends with whom she spends time both at preschool and in the afternoons. Her mother has been an active member of the preschool parents' community and, according to her, has also relied on other parents in the community to help take Sophia to after-school activities and extracurricular programs when work prevented her from doing so herself.

We do not understand how a child can be separated from her social environment and the fabric of her daily life at such a significant developmental milestone as the transition to first grade. We respectfully ask that this injustice be corrected.

Enrolling Sophia in the Schunati Shapira school is important not only for Sophia and her mother, but also for her friends and for the community as a whole.
